Why our love affair with London never ends
One of the most exciting capital cities in the world, London is intriguing, entertaining and surprisingly easy to navigate. It’s a city of contrasts with colourful history, culture in spades and superlative dining with cuisines from every corner of the globe. It feels as if London doesn’t belong to England, but rather the world.
The name London conjures a thousand images: Tower Bridge looming over the Thames, red double-decker buses, London taxis, the Thames, modern skyscrapers mixing with the ancient architecture of the Tower of London and St Paul’s Cathedral. Of course you’ll see those things but underpinning them are unforgettable experiences that reach right to the heart of the city, making it such a magnet for visitors.
Take a walk in the parks, shop in Knighstbridge and on Oxford, Bond and Regent Streets. Browse at Camden or Portobello vintage markets. Explore fantastic galleries and museums, super-trendy areas like Shoreditch, wander through buzzy Soho, see a show, play or film around Piccadilly. Explore the South Bank with its entertainment centre – Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Hayward Gallery; discover the area’s pubs and bars; take in the colourful sights, sounds and tastes of the mega foodie Borough Market.
Hungry for more? Kayak beneath Tower Bridge. Sail down the Thames to Kew Gardens, Hampton Court and Richmond. Walk in Richmond Park to see magnificent oak trees and deer. Go visit the new King and Queen’s Buckingham Palace. (You know you want to.) Whether you’re in search of historic or contemporary London or a blend of both, visit and fall under this splendid city’s spell.
